North Korea Conducts Nuclear Test

Posted in General by Justin Michael Delabar on the October 9th, 2006

North Korea has conducted an underground nuclear test, which resulted in a small quake in the area that was picked up by regional and US intelligence services. The test, which was originally expected to happen early this past Sunday, was conducted after the US denied bilateral negotiations and following a summit meeting of China and Japan’s leaders, Hu Jintao and Shinzo Abe. The US will push for UN-mandated sanctions on North Korea at a meeting of the Security Council this morning, and it is highly probable such measures will pass — no one is happy at Kim Jung Il, even his supposed ally China, which is now placed in an amazingly compromising situation.

I’ll have more later, after the day job.
